The Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources

USDA Multicultural Fellowships

The Rubenstein School is a multi-disciplinary academic unit that strives to integrate across the disciplines to create knowledge and develop solutions to a broad array of environmental issues. Fellows will pursue research on any of a range of topics related to healthy forested ecosystems in Vermont and elsewhere.

BENEFITS
The fellowship will provide:
1) a full tuition scholarship for the two-year program ($34,860)
2) two years of health insurance ($3,792)
3) a two-year stipend of $36,000 ($18,000/year)

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the fellowships, multicultural* candidates should be citizens or nationals of the United States as determined in accordance with Federal Law. Candidates should not have completed two semesters or equivalent hours of full-time graduate study or been previously enrolled in an academic program at the master’s degree level. Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program
The Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program combines a paid public policy internship with two career skills seminars and weekly policy lectures. You’ll gain real-world experience, take a crash course in market-based policy analysis, and hone your professional skills. The intensive ten-week program begins in June and includes a $1,500 stipend and a housing allowance.

Department of Commerce Internship for Post Secondary Students
Provides opportunities to participate in hands-on education and training related to the Department of Commerce. Interns work in the Department of Commerce headquarters, division offices, and filed centers in Washington D.C., Georgia, and Illinois. Undergraduates receive a $500 monthly stipend and graduate students receive a $600 monthly stipend along with a $150 housing stipend.

HACU National Internship Program
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) is currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate

Institute of International Education Internships
The Institute of International Education (IIE) administers scholarship programs funded by the Ford, Goldman Sachs, and General Electric foundations in Mexico and Brazil. Intern responsibilities include assistance in promotional activities, communication with universities and with Mexican students, response to requests for information, and management of on-line applications and Access databases. In addition, interns are involved in program development initiatives that include research, proposal writing and budget preparation. This program is open to students from U.S. universities who have either recently graduated (with an undergraduate degree), or are enrolled in a graduate program. No specific field of study is required.

Inter-American Foundation’s Grassroots Development Fellowship Program
IAF's Fellowships are intended to increase awareness of grassroots development efforts while building a community of professionals and scholars knowledgeable in the subject. Fellows examine the efforts of the rural and urban poor to improve their lives, their methods of organization and production, and the policies and programs designed to alleviate their poverty. The IAF disseminates research findings of its Fellows to a broad audience concerned with development.

IUPLR Summer Workshop on Health and Obesity – University of Notre Dame
The Inter-University Program for Latino Research (IUPLR) is holding its eighth annual 3-day workshop on Latino
health and obesity at the University of Notre Dame from July 13-15. This IUPLR Summer Research Workshop will
build on the success of last years’ workshop and focus on skill building. This workshop is aimed at new researchers interested in building their network to develop research collaborative proposals. The National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) helps ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy Doctoral Fellowships
University of New Mexico

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Center for Health Policy at the University of New Mexico will be awarding up to ten new fellowships of $24,000 each with full tuition remission and student health insurance for a total value of more than $31,000 (for nonresident students) and three or more new dissertation fellowships of $12,000 with similar benefits for the academic year 2010-11. All awards are annual (twelve months) with the possibility of renewal for students in good academic standing. Nominees for the fellowship must demonstrate an interest in health services research or policy analysis that aligns with the mission of the Center. Students must be accepted or currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in a social science department at UNM to be eligible for this award. At least half of the new awards are reserved for students in a Ph.D. program in Economics, Political Science, or Sociology. Prospective and current students should contact their department graduate committee chair or the department chair to discuss eligibility for the award.
Application Procedure. To apply students should submit a copy of their application to (or letter of acceptance in) a Ph.D. program in the social sciences at UNM, copies of all college transcripts, a current Curriculum Vita, 3 academic letter of reference, and a written statement (maximum of 2 pages) that highlights any prior experience or background in the research or study of health services or policy analysis as it relates to the mission of the Center.
Other Benefits. The RWJF Center for Health Policy provides fellows with opportunities to engage in a variety of experiences that will enhance their scholarship skills, including travel for research purposes and/or to attend national meetings and to engage in a wide variety of research programs and project. The particular program of study is designed by each Fellow as part of an educational plan developed in consultation with the Fellows’ department advisor and Center staff prior to the start of the award year. All students accepting RWJF Center awards for 2009-10 must be enrolled full-time in their department (minimum nine graduate credit hours for doctoral fellows and three
graduate credit hours as ABD for Dissertation Fellows).

Summer Undergraduate Minority Research (SUMR) program in Health Economics
To prepare top candidates to pursue research in health services and epidemiology, the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (LDI) and the Health Care Management Department (HCMD) of the Wharton School are seeking applicants for our summer research program for underrepresented minority undergraduate students and interested others. Candidates from minority groups that are underrepresented in the field of health services (African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and Pacific Islander) are particularly encouraged to apply. The Summer Undergraduate Minority Research (SUMR) program, in its eleventh year, provides rising sophomores, juniors and seniors with an opportunity to receive a generous monthly stipend to conduct health services research on a topic of their choice, under the guidance of Penn faculty. The purpose of SUMR is to prepare and encourage top minority students to pursue academic and research careers in health services research and epidemiology. In addition to conducting research, SUMR Scholars will participate in an orientation program, enroll in a GRE prep course, attend weekly seminars, attend a national conference in Boston, and network with health services researchers and epidemiologists. The program runs from late May through mid-August and currently is funded by LDI, HCMD and the VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP). Past supporters, and/or supporters of individual SUMR Scholars, have included the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Penn’s Center for Diversity Health Education and Research, Penn’s School of Nursing, and the Provost’s Diversity Fund.
